Aren't they L.O.V.E.L.Y?
Seriously. I. LOVE. THEM. (And I REALLY love my husband for finishing up this project!)
I seriously outgrew my last thread holder. I started quilting a lot more and wanted to always use a coordinating color, so, let's just say I have a lot of thread. I also started using a new brand of thread for most of my sewing, so there were lots of spools that didn't have homes.
They needed a place to go.
Badly.
It was a mess trying to look in 5 different places every time I wanted a certain color thread. Thinking I didn't have it. Going to buy more...only to find I ALREADY had a massive spool of black; now I have too, GREAT. (And the new spool wasn't even on sale because I wanted it NOW.)
MATERIALS:
picture frames
paint (I used one color for the pegboard and rods, another for the frames)
pegboard
dowel rods
wood glue
sand paper
HOW TO:
1. Sand the frames.
2. Cut the pegboard to fit snuggly within the back of your picture frame. Also, here, cut the dowel rods to the length you want. I wanted mine to stick out about a quarter to half inch after I put the spools on them.
3. Paint the frames, pegboard, and dowel rods that have ALREADY been cut. (If you paint first you will have to go back and repaint sections where everything was cut.) Painting the tiny dowel rods is a pain, but worth it in the end!
4. Glue the rods into the holes. Use LOTS of glue. You want them to stay snug. (My husband did this for me because I had been avoiding it for ages. It was great. Pregnant wife wakes up one day and her husband who had gotten up early with the kids had finished her project. STELLAR MAN. STELLAR.) He also turned the frames over and applied glue on the back, just for good measure. I have no problems with mine feeling loose.
Let's see the end product again.
Only thing I would do different is seal the paint. I like sealing things to make myself feel better and can't remember why I didn't on this project.
